Porsche 924, 944 & 968

The 924 was made from 1977 to 1982. They were equipped with a 2.0L
inline-4 SOHC engine that was mated to 4-speed transmission, with
solid front disc and rear drum brakes. They were eventually upgraded
to vented discs front and rear, with options such as sport suspension
with springs, torsion bars, sway-bars, shocks and struts, 5-speed
transmission and a more powerful engine (including a Turbo model).
Other special options included A/C, power windows, mirrors and an
automatic transmission. The 924S was made from 1987 to 1988. It had
the 944 engine, transmission and brakes in the 924 body.
The 944 was made from 1982 to 1992. The 944 built within these years
has evolved into what is commonly referred to as three series. The
1982 to 1985 944 is the "Series 1". The engine was a 2.5L inline-4
that was mated to a 5-speed transmission, with vented disc brakes.
The 1985.5 to 1988 944 is the "Series 2". Improvements in air vent
flow, oil sump capacity, new front and rear cast aluminum control
arms and semi-trailing arms, larger fuel tank, optional heated and
power seats, revised starter, revisions in the mounting of the transaxle
to reduce noise and vibration. For the 87 model year, ABS anti-lock
brakes became an available option, and a new sport suspension package
based on the Turbo Cup series.
Later variants include; The 1986 to 1988 944 Turbo, the 1988 to 1989
Turbo S, the 1987 to 1988 944S and the 1989 to 1992 944S2.
The 968 was made from 1993 to 1995. The 968 was introduced in '92
as a model year '93 car. It had a completely revised body style, and
was available as a coupe or cabriolet. Under the hood, the 3.0 litre
944S2 engine was improved with a patented variable valve timing system,
called the VarioCam.
